Every year, Kappa Deltas across the country hold a campaign to raise money for the prevention of child abuse in America. Traditionally, chapters always held the events in March, hence the name “Shamrock.” Though many chapters now hold Shamrock in the fall, Beta Epsilon chapter of Kappa Delta at the University of Tulsa continues to have their annual Shamrock event at the beginning of March.
This year, Beta Epsilon’s Shamrock ran from March 4 through March 7, though we started preparing far in advance. Back in early December, our chapter kicked off a letter writing campaign asking friends, relatives, and alumnae for donations to support the Parent Child Center of Tulsa. After months of letter writing and preparations, we actually held the events of Shamrock week. On Monday, we hosted a $5, all-you-can-eat hamburger and chicken dinner for the campus and community, and we served around 250 people. A flag football tournament was the highlight of Thursday, with teams in both a men’s and women’s bracket competing for the grand prize: a case of Girl Scout cookies (and bragging rights, of course)! Throughout the week, we also held raffles for prizes such as a Vera Bradley tote bag, TU apparel, and gift cards to local restaurants. The week as a whole was an enormous success.
As women of Kappa Delta, our goal is to link everything we do to promoting confidence in both ourselves and others. This is why we absolutely love working with and raising money for the Parent Child Center of Tulsa. In the Parent Child Center, we see an organization that is all about promoting confidence—confidence in new parents who may be unsure of how to raise their children, confidence in kids who face tough issues such as bullying or abuse, and so much more. Every service provided by the Parent Child Center of Tulsa works to improve the health and happiness of the Tulsa community, ultimately giving parents and children the confidence necessary to thrive.
